Editorial Policy
Line of Defence is an independent platform for analysis and commentary on defence, national security, and strategic affairs. Our purpose is to advance informed debate on the strategic choices shaping Aotearoa New Zealand’s security environment. We prioritise content that provides insight, challenges assumptions, and contributes meaningfully to policy, capability, and strategic thinking.
Independence
Line of Defence operates under a strictly independent editorial policy. Editorial decisions are made by the chief editor in consultation with the Editorial Board and are not influenced by sponsors, partners, or external stakeholders. All sponsored or partner content is clearly identified as such.
Standards
We publish original contributions from practitioners, policymakers, academics, and industry experts. Content is selected based on its relevance, analytical quality, and contribution to informed discourse. Contributors are expected to: (i) provide well-reasoned, evidence-based analysis, (ii) disclose any relevant conflicts of interest, and (iii) avoid promotional or marketing-driven content.
Scope
Our areas of editorial interest include defence policy and capability, national security strategy, regional and global security dynamics, and the implications of emerging technologies. We focus on analysis, commentary, and informed perspectives rather than reporting. Our editorial approach is to provide depth, context, and clarity on issues of consequence.
